AI is already moving into real estate workflows, and industry leaders say buyers and sellers are likely to bring more AI-powered research into their next transaction.

Customers will likely have more information on both sides of the transaction as AI tools become more common, Michael Kratsios, assistant to the president and director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, told attendees at the recent National Association of Realtors® midyear conference in Washington, D.C.

“I think on both sides of the transaction, you’re going to see a dramatic uplift in the amount of knowledge and information that the customers are having, and I would see that as a potential opportunity,” Kratsios said, according to Real Estate News.

For Realtors®, that could mean customers arrive with more questions, more data and stronger expectations. But more information does not always mean better understanding. Buyers and sellers may still need help weighing local market conditions, pricing, negotiations, contract terms and risks that may not be obvious in an AI-generated answer.

The shift is already showing up inside real estate businesses. NAR reported that today’s AI tools are moving beyond simple content generation. Some can draft and send messages, update CRM records, schedule follow-ups and trigger workflows with limited human involvement.

That may sae time, but NAR said it also raises risk for brokerages, including concerns involving MLS compliance, fair housing, advertising, branding, inaccurate information and tasks that may require a license.

“Things may get really dicey when your AI tool is acting in similar ways as a licensed activity,” David Conroy, NAR’s chief data officer, said.

Conroy said agents are already experimenting with the technology, making broker oversight and clear policies more important.

For real estate professionals, the next step is not just learning what AI can do. It is knowing when a customer needs human judgment, when a tool needs review and when local expertise matters more than a fast answer.
