OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — An Okeechobee real estate company contacted the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office after a man tried to sell land he does not own.
According to the report, Deputy Devon Satallante was dispatched to the real estate company on Sept. 2 to speak with the woman who reported the crime.
She told the deputy she received a phone call from a man lived in Miami but owned property in Okeechobee. He was concerned when a neighbor asked him if his property was for sale. He said it was not for sale and did not know what the neighbor was talking about. The neighbor told him the land was listed for sale, and he called the real estate company involved.
When the agent got that phone call, she went to the owner of the company for advice. She told the owner the man contacted her and showed her his passport which had the name of the property owner on it. However, when they tried the phone number they were given, it was the wrong number. When the agent reached out to the true owner, he told her he never placed his property up for sale and said it was a scam. She immediately removed the listing and contacted law enforcement.
There is no further information at this time, and no arrests were made.
