Social media growth is getting harder to fake with polished graphics and generic posts. According to a new report, the platforms delivering the strongest engagement in 2026 are rewarding content that feels faster, more personal and easier to interact with.
This may mean shifting away from overly produced marketing and leaning more into short-form video, neighborhood content and quick market insight videos that feel authentic and timely.
What’s changing on social
The Emplifi report found TikTok remains the fastest-growing platform for brands, with median follower counts rising more than 200% year over year. Engagement on TikTok also far outpaced other major platforms.
Instagram still matters, but the type of content performing best is changing.
According to Emplifi:
- Reels and carousel posts generated about 44% more engagement than static images on Instagram.
- Facebook Live videos significantly outperformed links and image posts.
- On X, lighter conversational posts and GIFs outperformed polished media content.
The broader takeaway is that platform strategies are no longer interchangeable. A polished listing graphic posted everywhere is unlikely to perform as well as it once did.
What’s earning engagement now
The strongest-performing content increasingly centers on:
- Short neighborhood videos
- Market updates delivered directly to camera
- Behind-the-scenes moments
- Educational walkthroughs
- Content people are likely to save or share
The report also noted Instagram engagement rates declined sharply over the past two years, reinforcing the importance of creating content designed for interaction rather than passive scrolling.
For agents trying to stay visible, consistency and personality may now matter more than polish — and that’s a shift most can start making now.
